Williamsburg

Today, we decided to venture across the East River to visit Williamsburg in Brooklyn. We took the L-Train to Bedford Avenue and arrived in a different country. Brooklyn was not high on our list of places to visit on this trip but Williamsburg was a revelation. I had previously heard it described as,
‘A mecca for young creatives for over a decade, Williamsburg is in the same cosmos as hip East Berlin’
While Williamsburg is a little more laid back than East Berlin, I can see the comparison.
We began our journey on 11th Street and weaved our back to 4th Street, criss-crossing Bedford Avenue as we went. On the way, we dined at Kasia's Restaurant which is one of the last surviving local diners. We spent the rest of the day visiting all type of store, from super cool vintage outlets, to the local surfboard shop, to the best street tacos we have tried yet.
As the sun set, we jumped on the East river ferry at 6th street and enjoyed the fading light as we headed downtown to the Wall street ferry terminal. The views were amazing as we passed under the Williamsburg, Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges.
Following that, we again succumbed to the relentless call of pizza, dining at Arturo’s on West Houston St. Afterwards, Karin and Stella hailed a cab while Ollie and I weaved our way home through the side streets of New York.
On the way, Ollie finally found his elusive Twinkie in some innocuous store in the midde of nowhere.  Thank god that search is over.
