Pacific Coast Highway

We have spent the last two days driving up and down the Pacific Coast Highway exploring the small beach communities on either side of LA. We first headed south to Laguna Beach and then on further to the famous surf break of Trestles, walking the long dusty trail down to the rail tracks. On the way back, we stopped at Newport and Huntington Beach to walk their piers. At Newport, we watched as seals rose to the surface in chase of the fishermen’s catch. At Huntington Beach, we walked to the end of the pier as the sun set over the ocean. We arrived back home in the early evening to feast on tacos from Casalinda on Abbot Kinney Boulevard. Today we drove north to Zuma Beach and Malibu to watch tiny clean waves peel down the legendary beach. We walked along the strangely deserted beach that is home to a traditional style of surfing and lifestyle. Afterwards, we drove back into the future towards Hollywood with a stop on Melrose Avenue for a shopping spree and a spot of lunch of fresh hummus, falafel and chicken at the Kosher Ta-eem Grill. On the way home, we made a detour past the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre on Franklin Avenue which is home to its own peculiar lifestyle and traditions.  We have two more days in LA before the long drive north to San Francisco and then a slow trip back to LAX along the Big Sur.
